Even though the elections are over I continue to vote every day. In fact, I and my fellow Locavore Nation citizens vote many times a day. I suppose we all are truly living the old adage, "Vote early and vote often." I am, of course, talking about voting with our fork.
I think this is the way we all should vote. Yes, it's fun to touch a screen with a double-ended eraser pencil, but voting with my fork is way more fulfilling. Imagine what policy changes we could initiate if we all choose to stick our forks into our local food maws rather than an industrial one? We could send a flood of money and resources into our local economy while enjoying seasonal produce and fantastic meals. I like this kind of policy change.
I am VERY happy to learn that after my wonderful CSA ends this December, I will be able to continue voting with my fork by purchasing local produce from Custom Gardens in Silver Springs. Farmers Ray and Virginia have answered the prayers of Nevada locavores and are growing greens and other cool-season crops in four solar hoop-houses. YEAH!
Since I am more deeply involved with the Great Basin Community Food Co-Op, I think I will volunteer to drive to Custom Gardens on a regular basis so we can have local produce for sale through the winter. I hope I can find 3 other volunteer drivers, that way we can make weekly trips to Ray and Virginia's farm. Any takers?
