Fried Green Tomatoes

Posted at 8:37 AM on November 16, 2008 by Cher Stuewe-Portnoff (1 Comments)

Green tomato harvest at our house usually means pickles, mincemeat, and other miscellaneous foods-in-a-jar to make winter meals more interesting. Then there's the immediate gratification of fried green tomatoes - hot, crispy, juicy, tongue-tingling - with the extras. We fry almost nothing else, but "waste not, want not," right? This year, we had only a half dozen small green tomatoes altogether, rescued before the first freeze. How to use them? No contest - fried green tomatoes won, hands down. I do believe that the memory of that meal will warm and sustain us even through a green-tomato-less winter.

I wonder if I can still fry up those green tomatoes I picked.....a month ago....they are not moldy....i might have to coerce Ashley to go in there and fry those babies up! By the way, we rarely fry either, but homemade fried free range chicken is deliriously delicious.......thank goodness it is a pain to do or we could have a real problem on our hands....:).

Best regards, Vera
