Local food at the hospital?

Posted at 11:29 AM on August 12, 2008 by Sareen Dunleavy Keenan (8 Comments)

Only one reason for the Keenan family to take the trek to the hospital, or so we thought. We started dialing the numbers for all of the doctors on the 31st of July, only to have all contractions stop. Then, on the first of August, we played the same game again. Four hours of contractions, trip to the hospital only to have the whole show stop as soon as we set up all the fetal monitors. I tried everything to get that baby to leave the comforts of home to join us in the real world. Nothing seemed to work.

Finally, on August 5th we said we could wait no longer. This baby must come today. Brendan's birthday (August 4th) had come and gone and there was no more time to wait for baby to figure out this whole process on it's own. So we had a healthy (9lbs 5oz and 22 inches) baby who is now home and doing a fantastic job of sleeping many of the hours that the rest of the whole house is sleeping.

Brendan did a fantastic job of bringing food over from Midtown Global Market which is attached to the hospital where we delivered. Again, we find that the food we need isn't always offered where we need it, but somehow it is always near by. Now to enjoy the food people have been bringing to us and to somehow get our feet underneath us. Two babies under 15 months is going to be a whole new challenge in our household.

Thanks for the thoughts. So far... things are going great, but I am sure as soon as both can move independently I will have to invest in new running shoes.

Next week will be the first real challenge - Brendan going back to work. We will see how local eating- or eating in general go once I am on my own!

Three weeks in an I have already had to sacrifice all shopping for the year so that we could afford someone to clean the house twice a month. It became evident fast that two kids so close together was going to be a challenge. The funny thing is that it seems that the busier the three of us girls keep ourselves with errands, trips to the park, or whatever, the easier life seems to be!
