In the past I have always been enthusiastic about the food seasons, but this year is a different story. I am ecstatic. March until the end of April were pretty boring/challenging months for me food-wise. What is interesting to me is the family didn't really seem to notice. Maybe that is the difference between being the food-preparer and the consumers of that same food.
Recently, I purchased from Just Local Food Coop something out of the ordinary for us. Ramps or wild leeks. I have never had them before, and would have never tried them before doing the Locavore thing. I used them in eggs-very good. I was thinking about using the tops for veggie stock also. I was with some friends and one of my sisters this weekend in St. Paul, and ironically, at a food store on Grand Avenue that specializes in local foods, they had samples of ramp butter. It was awesome. Ramp butter is now on our menu.
