Homeschoolers have the best potlucks parties (and lots of them). For my beloved Sasha's birthday party last week we had homemade icecream with local milk and eggs (unfortunately we did not eat this until later because Lynn kindly brought four delectable flavours of Breyers...........I think the kids might have gotten a little upset if I had gotten on my local bandwagon at that point), Devils food cake with local eggs, milk and whole wheat flour from War EAgle Mill (imported coco, fair trade organic from Frontier), Beef and Broccoli with some garden broccoli and some from wild oats (we had over twenty people to feed) and very delicious beef given to us by Mr. Helwig. Orange glazed tofu made with florida honey sweet tangerines (they looked kind of banged up but were really delicious) and Farm tofu. Stir fried rice with Southern Brown Rice, garden cilantro, wild garlic greens.....I was surprised that I was able to get so much food locally for a larger gathering with little or no trouble. We had a really fun excursion to the international market in Memphis, I had the idea that since some of the vegetable growers at the Agricenter farmers market are Asian, maybe they would be selling at this market, there was no one I could speak with there and nothing looked local, but it was a really eye opening experience, I did not recognize fully half of the vegetables growing there, I think in January I will be going on a little experimental shopping experience..........ah the anticipation. Michele broght a lovely Asian inspired salad......and Tammy gave us some venison....Scott cooked that into a tasty stew this weekend, mmm, mmm. We had a wonderful time with some really tasty food..........what lucky peole we are.
Best wishes, Vera
