GLAD TO BE BACK

Posted at 1:27 PM on April 15, 2008 by Margaret Hochla (2 Comments)

Hello all!

After an extremely busy Holy Week and Easter and some health problems, it is good to be back! Spring seems to be coming on beautifully down here. The supply of vegetables and fruits will only increase from here through October! I am ready.

Right now, I am in pursuit of local flour. There is plenty of whole wheat, white and otherwise, but, not so much of any flour that is suitably fine ground/milled for cakes and some cookies.
It seems to be a case of not having the right contacts or just not knowing enough.

Let me know if there is a good local source for all purpose white flour, please.

Welcome back Margaret,

I get my white flour from the War Eagle Mill (www.wareaglemill.com) in Rogers,Arkansas, is that close to you? They have a nice all purpose white organic flour. Many other delicious types of flours are to be had here as well. I am very fond of their corn meals. As a little aside I make all of my cakes and cookies with soft whole wheat (whole wheat pastry flour) or white whole wheat, the soft whole wheat has that more crumbly texture that is nice in pastry type stuff and the flavor is very nice.

Best wishes, Vera

Hi Margaret:

Try Shawnee Mills' white flour from -- of course -- Shawnee, Okla. You should be able to get it in many Oklahoma City area stores. They get their wheat from Oklahoma farmers by the way.

Good luck ...
