Funny how often we can't see what's right in front of us.
Walking down our street yesterday, I noticed a neighbor's grass covered with pecans (and shells, where squirrels had lunched) that had fallen from the tree in her yard. Last spring when we moved in, I'd seen the nut trees up and down our block, and couldn't wait for fall. The last time I picked up fresh pecans was 40 years ago, at a u-pick farm, the day I went into labor with our first son. Somehow, I'd lost track of these. Now I remember the bucketful that our next-door neighbor brought over a couple of months back, still waiting in a back room for me to shell them. In the neighbor's yard, more for the gathering. Talk about local! WaHOO!
Hmmmm....I have suddenly remembered the pecans I received about a year ago......if I brush away the dust and kitchen grease they should be fine (?), thanks for the reminder :).
Best regards,Vera
