So, whenever we talk with people about the project there are two responses:
A) Oh cool! I have something local I have saved. I would trade you "X" for "Y." This is how we have gotten a sudden infusion of berries and venison. We only had to give up a bit of green tomato salsa (bad tomato summer) and a jar of dilly beans. Great help!
B) Oh cool! *looking around the office or home* Where is this from? How about this? Ohhhh… this looks like it is made from Oklahoma, not quite 500 miles eh?
I would call them both helpful but…
I need help. I also trying to buy more local. I live in Des Moines and I can't find a single vegetable that is local. Does any one have any suggestions. This spring we are starting our own garden but what do I do until then?

In response to Tiffany's post.
You might check out Edible Iowa River Valley group. They have a magazine about local foods. They might help you find local food sources during these winter months.

I would also start talking to friends and co-workers about eating locally. It is amazing how much people around you might already know about where to shop. I am still learning daily about this!
