I'm now far enough away from the bloody book to actually crack it open again, because I'm hungry and craving those meatballs.

Lynne's meatballs. Her Sweet-Sour Chicken Meatballs with Candied Lemon Peel, to be exact.

I must warn you that you'd better strap on your hard hat, because I'm quite certain that these meatballs are unlike anything you've ever put together. Their origins are religious, dreamed up by Italian Catholics as a celebration dish. But don't let religion stand in your way; both believers and pagans can agree on this sumptuous take.

The concept is simple: meatballs made of ground chicken thigh, spinach, a little bit of chopped salami, bread crumbs, cinnamon, cheese, almonds and -- the piece de resistance -- candied lemon peel.

They are sautéed until lightly browned and then sauced with red wine glaze. They are out of this world . I'm serving mine this weekend on a bed of arugula with a big glass of Primitivo.

Dear Lynne, I tried to keep up with the meatball recipe you recited to a caller, but couldn't manage it. The recipe sounded very interesting (ground chuck, cheese, bread crumbs, tomato paste, onion, oregano). I couldn't find anything like it on this site. Can you help me out? Thanks. Letha (love your npr show.)

I agree with Letha. The meatball recipe recited to the caller last week sounded heavenly. Please provide it on the site when you can.

Thanks!
Rebecca
