Summer Love in the Tar Heel State

September 12, 2010

PHC staffer Ella Schovanec is on the Summer Love tour with Garrison, Sara Watkins, Fred Newman and The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band and will update us periodically from the road.

We did a show tonight from the Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, North Carolina. We found out that Koka is actually a man (not a bean like I originally thought). A past mayor of Cary who helped build the amphitheatre as a home for the North Carolina Symphony. And it's a beautiful home, we were surrounded by sweet smelling southern yellow pines and the stage was right next to a lake with tame geese and turtles and a duck named Rufus that all happily swam after the bread we tossed them.

It was a great show and the audience was stellar, though it drizzled off and on all night long, they stuck with us. Robin and Linda Williams did a rendition of "If I Should Fall Behind" that, combined with the rain, ensured that there wasn't a dry eye left in the place. Tomorrow is the tour's last stop, Charlottesville, Virginia, though I don't think any of us are ready to say goodbye just yet.
