Oberlin SO's epic journey, 2009

Posted at 9:21 AM on May 14, 2009 by Fred Child (1 Comments)

You're 19, 20, 21, maybe 22 years old. A great young classical musician. Good enough to get into one of the top music schools in the country, the Oberlin Conservatory. Not only that, you're good enough to be in the top orchestra in school.

Now, your orchestra leaving snowy Ohio in the dead of winter, touring the west coast, and playing at one of the great concert venues in the world: Walt Disney Concert Hall.

It's a cold day in January, you tromp through the Ohio snow to get on...what turns out to be a school bus, taking you to the airport.

Here's the 10-minute documentary from the Oberlin Conservatory's blog about the trip.

The Epic Journey to LA from Oberlin College on Vimeo.

Hear a highlight from their LA concert, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, on the Friday broadcast of Performance Today.
