French composer Francis Poulenc: "half monk, half guttersnipe" ("le moine et le voyou") as Claude Rostand called him.
The first video is Poulenc himself at one of the pianos (he has the older, hairier knuckles), playing his own Concerto for Two Pianos. Poulenc's buddy Georges Pretres conducting the French National Radio & TV Philharmonic. Late 1950s, I'm guessing? Great piece, and how fun is it to see Poulenc himself playing it!
(Also, don't miss the castanets at 1:27)
And then...there's this.
Creepy, yet oddly compelling.
