It’s too early to tell how big or small the current swine flu outbreak will get, but Marketplace will be prepared.

Are you a first responder, public health professional, or other worker whose job may be affected by an outbreak? Let us know what you’re experiencing and thinking about the outbreak here.

If you’re alarmed by the prospect of an outbreak but your budget is tight, are you spending on emergency supplies?

Click here to tell Marketplace how your work or personal life connects to this week’s swine flu concerns. Or, hit the comments below.

And in case you didn’t catch it, Scott Jagow posted a link to a 1976 swine flu PSA on his blog, along with a pun that’s making me groan in pain.

I’m less concerned for myself personally than I am for my employer, a builder of single family houses and condos. I work in the condo division selling new homes, and we’ve actually had an encouraging spring thanks to lower home prices and the $8000 tax credit. But an epidemic would bring things to an abrupt halt; no telecommuting in this biz.

As for myself, I’d already developed a plan of action in the event of a pandemic, and did a dry run over the weekend (stocking up on supplies and updating the plan where needed). Folks in my age group will be last in line as far as getting Tamiflu, so I’m planning to quarantine myself if and when a pandemic develops.

I’m also concerned that many people don’t take disaster planning seriously. Given the comments I’ve had from friends, I’m the only one who actively plans and tests her plan, and I’m regarded as something of an alarmist and a kook because of it. Guess whose house they’ll all show up at when the doo-doo hits the fan?

Hope for the best, plan for the worst, and assume that the responsible folks will get to bail out the fools. (Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?)
