The economy: Not at your service

The Economy

If we needed an unmistakable signal the economy is shrinking, here it is: Activity in the service sector fell big time in January. We get this number every month from the Institute of Supply Management. December's reading was 54. January's was 42. Any reading below 50 means contraction. And to put this in perspective, that reading hasn't been below 50 since March of 2003.

SO WHAT. To me, it is GREAT that the economy is NOT growing. We are being asked today, in my opinion, to completely re-think our place on Earth, our consumption habits leading to the entire collapse of Earth's ecological systems, and the rapid extinction of many species. Who the HELL gave humans permission to destroy other living beings for eternity? Who made us the species so thoughtless, so irreverent, so disrespectful of life, the environment, and even our own bodies, that we have turned this planet into a trash heap and waste lagoon?
I have NO fear, as so called public media opines, that we will turn into savages if we learn new ways and adopt new ethics by which to live and co-exist on this earth. We humans have proved over ten thousand years that the gift of life and nature we were charged with stewarding, we did not deserve. If a species craps all over itself and its life support for profit and gluttonous values, it deserves to be taken off the list of care givers. My pet hens would do a FAR better job healing the earth than humans are doing.
What ethics and "family values" enables the EPA, FDA, and USDA to create a toxic world that increases childhood cancers, developmental disorders, obesity, and other degenerative diseases that may be great for the industries of diease, but stink for those who suffer with them? What society teaches habits and consumption that is killing oceans, rivers, poisoning water, air, plant and animal life?
Our so called "American Values" from my seat, leave MUCH to be examined and changed. It's time for a new "American Dream," that does not turn life and earth into a manure pit and nigtmare for those yet to come.
Bring on slow or NO growth. If we had any morals or ethics, our so called "Christian" leaders would be spending the military budget on creating a sustainable agriculture system that fed children wholesome nutrient dense foods that turn them into healthy adults. Too simple. What would the weapons industry and biotech industry do without war and cruelty, the exploitation of animals, and the abuse of humans who are caught in areas where corporations need their land, water, and whatever lies under the ground being exploited for profit? Human economies are killing the planet. DON'T you get it already?

I've just listened to Mr. Stein's concern for the poor working man. No doubt he drove his Bronco to the station to make his plea for the common man. Honestly, Ben Stein weeping for the common man's fate? After my sides stopped hurting from laughing ...
