At the Neon’s release in January 1994, Robert Lutz (then Chairman of Chrysler) said, “There’s an old saying in Detroit: ‘Good, fast, or cheap. Pick any two.’ We refuse to accept that.” But driver deaths fatality risks statistics -published by the IIHS- rated the Neon among the “Highest rates of driver deaths”, with 161 driver deaths per million registered vehicle deaths. Average for the Neon class (4 door small) was 103 driver deaths per million registered vehicle deaths.
