LAPD Chief Bratton responds to complaints about moving officers from West LA to new stations
Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton is responding to charges from some city council members that his effort to transfer officers from West L.A. to new stations in higher-crime districts lacks sensitivity.
Chief William Bratton: “To open these stations I have to, for several months, move officers from all over the city to staff those stations. So, West Los Angeles’ fair share were 16 officers. Some commands are losing more than that.”
Bratton told KPCC’s “Patt Morrison” that his department’s opening two new stations just after the New Year. The LAPD has hired 500 new officers, he said, but 350 of them are still training at the police academy.
