I think I must have a bad case of the social flu. I've woken up this morning feeling extrememly hot and cold towards my fellow voters.
On the one hand can the future for the whole country be more exciting and hopefull with this new president elect. You would think we've finally turned the corner on our widespread insidious bigotry and intolerance and yet tempering that hopefulness is the fact that we still can't seem to let go of our discusting religious and intolerant feelings towards our brothers and sisters born (yes born, NOT made) homosexual.
How can anybody tolerate the bigotry of some of us doing something that we deny others of our neighbors and even friends. I can marry anybody that I love yet other Americans are denied this basic right.
How many times must I shout "Keep your religious bigotry out of public life"
I am a naturalized citizen, mother of two young American- born children. This was my first time voting for a president.
This morning, I feel for the first time in years that the country has a good chance to move in a better direction and be a place where young children like mine can grow up in peace, free from environmental pollutants, and with access to good public education.
My mother's plea for my new fellow citizens is "let yourselves be moved, energized, and mobilized to work together behind this amazing man, to make this country all that it can be! Thanks
I was cautiously optimistic when I went to cast my vote. I had my nine year old son Langston come with me so that he could see the process. After I cast my vote for Senator Obama, I ask a lady standing close by if she would take a picture of my son and I in front of the voting station. I said to the lady as I handed her our camera " Do you mind taking a picture of my son and I? I want a picture to look back on when HE becomes president." We were both full of pride to be part of this great nation. I knew it was a moment we would both want to look back on fondly.
This is a brand NEW day and I am incredibily proud of my country - Great Job America!!
