Another election day! Tonight, the Democratic primary elections come to an end after Montana and South Dakota hold their primaries, as attention turns to the general election battle. Here in Southern California, we have several key races of our own, including the 2nd district Los Angeles County Supervisor race between Bernard Parks and Mark Ridley-Thomas, as well as state ballot initiatives Proposition 98 and Proposition 99.

Be sure to tune into 89.3 KPCC tonight for continuing coverage on both local and national races, beginning at 3:30 p.m. during ALl Things Considered, and including a special NPR call-in show at 7 p.m.. This will be followed by extended local, statewide, and national coverage and analysis hosted by our own Nick Roman. We'll be taking your calls, as well as covering it all live online.

Marcia Linwood:

I voted for Clinton, but am thrilled that Obama pulled out a victory and is the nominee. Clinton lost luster with me, making poor decisions - like her stance on the summer gas-tax rollback - which I thought was a TERRIBLE idea, and one more example of Clinton going with what's popular, instead of what's smart. Encouraging people to drive more during the summer is NOT smart. Also, I did not like the way she twisted facts around to bash Obama. That is a pet peeve of mine - when candidates twist the truth to make an opponent look bad, i.e., "so-and-so voted against education" b/c a bad measure passed their desk that also happen to include a tiny add-on for education. I hate that. It is an obvious manipulation, and very low. During this process Obama grew on me a great deal. I am thrilled he is the nominee. I don't think McCain has a chance if we have a fair and free election, and nothing bad happens to Obama. I thought his speech was great. I almost teared up.

karl:

obama rocks.

Jane :

Karl,

Will you still think Obama rocks when he bombs Iran and our dollar collapses? Stop the military industrial complex-vote Ron Paul.

Anne:

To the contrary, I don't find Obama distant, I feel he is more in touch with the desires/needs of the people than Hillary.

I had been a Hillary supporter for years and in this election have been very disappointed in both the Clintons. I no longer believe or trust their motives.

karl:

Jane,
You may or may not have heard, but wRong Paul, isn't even running anymore. I wish you neocons would stop observing youtube and start working on CHANGing the future by contributing to society like oh I don't know becoming an engineer or scientist.

Jane:

Karl,

With all due respect sir, you must be getting paid off by the neocons. I think you are sick and need to see a doctor-Dr. Paul that is.

Jane :

PLEASE READ ON AIR-RON PAUL IS STILL RUNNING!!!

karl:

I am confident that the most important issues will not be addressed in this campaign, and need problem solvers in our most important offices. Will Obama do this, I am unsure that he could. However, liberatarions such as Ron Paul provide insights that some of the candidates should observe and consider if they want my vote.

Art Kocsis:

Re Bill Carrick (sp?) comments:

Allocating candidates proportionally is MUCH preferred over winner take all.
He sounds more interested in power politics than in democracy.

"Internet financing means no candidate runs out of money"? Where has he been these past few months? Hillery is $20 million in debt. That's not running out of money?

Internet financing means that campaign financing is no longer controlled by big money but by the populace. Obama has had more than 1.5 million contributors. Why doesn't that significance sink in? It is not only the politicians that need to change but the political pundits need to update their thinking to reflect reality.

How do these people get time?

Nooshin B:

I am so pleased with the result. At the primary time, I was not sure about Obama. Over time, Clinton proved to be just about power and no integrity. She has long been controlled by the pharmaceuticals and the Israeli government to get money from both sources. Just like Bush with the Soudi Arabians and the gas companies to fill their collective pockets. McCain will be another Republican like Bush who is just a puppet to those who have made Bush dance to their deadly music for the last seven years. God bless Obama, America, and the world. It is not just about us. We are responsible for what our government does around the world.

Richard Whissen:

I'm so happy that the long contest is over! I was a Clinton supporter, but I gladly accept Obama as the nominee. Now I cross my fingers, hoping that Obama will not yield to popular pressure to name Clinton as his VP. He needs someone who brings a larger portion of gravitas and dignitas than Clinton, someone akin to a Bill Richardson, for example. A Richardson type would add enormous weight to the Democratic ticket.

Then, too, Clinton could easily fill far more important posts than Veep, posts like Senate Majority Leader or, perhaps, Supreme Court Justice.

The most critical objective now, though, is to capture the Executive Mansion and the Congress. All true Democrats must unite to produce that result. If we fail to do it now, then we will have lost for several decades any hope of halting the steady march of the Supreme Court to the right, with its concomitant erosion of the civil liberties that so many fought for so long to attain.

I hope that Senator Kennedy can survive and prosper long enough to make a clarion call for party unity at the Convention. That might turn out to be the biggest single service he will have performed in his entire career.
