*The* Internet, when used as a proper noun, should be capitalized just like any other proper noun, such as Future Tense. We don't pick and choose proper nouns to capitalize based on importance or age or because we feel like it, right?
When used as an *adjective*, it makes more sense to use lower case: internet business, internet bandwidth, internet protocols.
