The Cheat Sheet A handy summary of all the info on this week’s show [pdf].

Drink Recipe: “The Edison”

On November 21st, 1877, Thomas Edison announced he’d invented the first working recording device — the phonograph. 131 years later we’ve got Dolby, THX… and “The Edison,” the signature drink of the Edison bar in downtown L.A..

RECIPE as recounted by Aidan Demarest, beverage director at The Edison

In a shaker, pour

  • 1 & 1/2 oz. Bourbon (the Edison uses home-infused lavender-honey Woodford Reserve)
  • 3/4 oz. Belle de Brulee pear liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. fresh squeezed pear juice

Strain into chilled martini glass.

After Dinner Mint

Notes on this week’s show

One of the darlings we grudgingly ripped out of today’s show was this unbelievable audio clip of an Edison promotional record circa 1906. Would but that today’s advertisements were loaded with such eloquent B.S.!

Speaking of records: BEST RECORD STORE EVER.

Deejay/writer/muso Chad Brown, aka “The Lonesome Cowboy,” provided this week’s Icebreaker. Throw on a tune from his band CB Brand, grab a brew, and there’s your Friday night.

Did Main Course guest Patrick Martins get you craving a steaklike Heritage turkey? Order one here. WARNING: have a credit card handy, with a high limit; these birds ain’t cheap… and they’re almost sold out.
