The Cost of Living in New York

Those of us who live here know that New York City is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Paying for housing, transportation, food, and utilities can strain even the heftiest paycheck.

Conventional wisdom says that in these tough economic times, prices are creeping ever higher, and New York is becoming an even more expensive place to call home.

Well, surprise! According to a new report from the Department of Labor, the cost of living in New York declined over the last year, for the first time in more than half a century.
