Alfie

Honestly, the only thing good about this movie is having another opportunity to watch Jude Law in pretty clothes.

Over here. No! Over there. Wait! I'm cute - look at me.

Alfie tries. Really, it does. It tries I-heart-NYC cheeky bigness. It tries sap. It tries panties. Much like the title character, the movie never settles on anything until it's too late. Maybe this style-switching is meant to reflect the complexity of human nature. Instead, it reflects the short attention span of, um, me watching this movie. Wait for it to hit the video store, mute it, and make up your own words while you watch the pretty people.

Alfie

I appreciated the evolution of the main character, which Jude Law plays very well, but the movie drags on far too long. It also didn't seem to know whether it was a drama or a light comedy, which I found irritating. The movie eventually ends at the most unlikely place, with practically no resolution. I would have shortened it by about 20 minutes, which also would have left fewer loose ends.

Jude charms but...

Jude Law is perfect to play Alfie, but the movie doesn't seem to know when to end.
