This guy suffered the loss of an eye during an accident. He didn't have the means for a nice glass eye. Instead, he got one made of wood. It was painted and looked okay, but it was clearly an artificial eye. Needless to say, he was very self-conscious about the glass eye and had a wretched social life.
One evening, he went to a community dance, hoping against hope that he might be lucky enough to find someone to share a dance. All night, he stood alongside the wall, too scared to ask anyone.
Suddenly, across the room, he spied a woman with an artificial leg. It was too good to be true. He worked up the courage to go over to her and push the lump down in his throat. With shaky voice he said, "Would you like to dance with me?"
She beamed and said, "Would I?" (wood eye)
He looked back at her and yelled, "Peg leg! Peg leg!" ”
