I know that there is some truth to the contemporary attitude of literary critics that the response of the "reader" should outweigh the author's intentions in interpreting a work of art, but context has to impose some control: no one will ever convince me that when Kenny Rogers sings: "You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em," that it "can be read" as a song about Origami.
